- Lot Description
Grouping of six (6) Robert Thress (Tennessee, 1935-2015) Nantucket-style baskets. Each basket features a finely woven round form with a wooden base and is fitted with metal-hinged handles. Two of the baskets include wooden lids with bone knobs or inlays—including one inlaid with a whale. All baskets are signed “Bob Thress” and dated between “1-09” and “12-11.” Ranging in size from 4 3/4 in. H x 3 1/2 in. dia. to 8 3/4 in. H x 7 5/8 in. dia. (H includes handles). Bio: Robert Thress was a retired land manager for the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and a skilled artisan who produced 50 to 55 Nantucket baskets annually.
