Two (2) scarce mid-19th century silver serving utensils. 1st item: Coin silver cake or fish serving knife with decorative carved mother of pearl handle, the blade marked BAILEY AND KITCHEN in rectangle for retailers Bailey and Kitchen of Philadelphia (1833-1846) with harp, thistle and eagle pseudohallmarks for makers Robert Taylor and Robert Lawrie, circa 1845. Monogram CD to blade. 13 1/8" L. 2nd item: Coin silver Asparagus Tongs in a "Jenny Lind" variant pattern, both arms stamped G. BOYCE in rectangle for Geradus or Gheradus Boyce, working New York City 1814-1854. Extremely small, illegible additional punch mark to exterior of one arm. Monogram "C.A. Duncan" to bridge. Circa 1850. 9 1/4" L, 5.73 troy ounces.
PROVENANCE: By descent in the historic Pinckney family of Runnymede Plantation, South Carolina.
Handle on knife has some minor discoloration, scratching, and a small loss at the tip, plus some scratching to blade. Tongs in very good condition.
