- Lot Description
Large carved Southeast Asian marble figure of Phra Mae Torani, depicted as a young woman wringing the "cool waters of detachment" out of her long hair to drown a demon sent to tempt Buddha. Unsigned. Affixed to a later rectangular hardwood base. 48" H x 13 1/2" W x 9" D (overall, including base). Sculpture: 44" H x 10" W x 11" D without base. Likely Burmese or Thai, early 20th century or earlier.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Richard J. Eskind, Nashville.
Condition
Overall good condition with some scattered marks and surface discolorations, including discoloration to back of subject's shoulder from previous tape and sales sticker. Scattered small areas of wear.
