- Lot Description
Montgomery Ansell (United Kingdom, 19th century) oil on canvas painting depicting a highland loch at sunset, with a cottage to the left and mountains in the distance. Signed lower left "Montgomery Ansell." Housed in a molded gilt wood frame. Label from Sherman Galleries, Newport News, VA with title "Lake in Scotland" and date circa 1870. Partial label to lower stretcher en verso for Thomas Gaved & Company. Sight: 19 1/4" H x 29 1/4" W. Framed: 27 1/4" H x 37 1/4" W.
Condition
Overall good condition. Small 1" dia. patch repair en verso to sky upper right. Craquelure throughout. Slight stretcher creasing. Areas of flaking with scattered minute losses near bottom corners in darker paint.
