Paul Jacoulet (France/Japan, 1902-1960) shin hanga Japanese woodblock print depicting a woman in a pink dress who stands before a flowering tree by night and observes a spiderweb, the threads of which Jacoulet prints in silver, 1941. Pencil signed "Paul Jacoulet" above bird chop mark, lower right. Titled Fluers du Soir, Truck-Toloas (Evening Flowers, Toloas, Truk) to lower right margin. With JP watermark, lower left. Editioned 201/350 en verso. Housed in a Japan paper folder with tissue interleaving, possibly original to the print. Sheet: 18 7/16" H x 14" W. Portfolio: 20 1/8" H x 14 3/4" W. Note: Truck (or Truk), now Chuuk, is a Micronesian state. Tonoas (also called Tonowas or Dublon) is an island in the Chuuk Lagoon.
Overall very good condition, with minor foxing to lower margin. Old tape residue to corners, especially lower and upper right. 1/4" area of staining extending from flower into part of woman's hair.
