Extraordinary T.H. Marthinsen .830 silver lidded tureen with ball and claw feet; beautifully detailed eagle's head handles; and repousse work throughout the body of vessel depicting flowers, birds, and scrolling foliage amidst a textured ground. This particular form is modeled after an early 18th century design referred to as a lid bowl. The four ball form finials with floral design act also as feet enabling the tureen lid to serve as a bowl. The lid itself is decorated in a central Celtic woven design with a surround of repousse work in the form of birds and foliage; also a slightly ruffled edge to perimeter. Thorvald Marthinsen Solvvarefabrikk (Tonsberg). Underside of vessel is stamped, "830S T.H. Marthinsen" with the pictorial hallmark of Mathinsen's work.
