Model 1798 Whitney Contract Musket
.69 caliber, 42" barrel length smooth bore, lockplate is marked with eagle motif over New Haven in front of hammer. Back of lockplate is marked U. States. Maryland is carved into wood on the right side of the stock in front of frizzen. Has walnut stock with gray metal lock plate, barrel, barrel bands, hammer, frizzen, sidelock and buttplate. The lock parts appear to be that of the 1816-type with rounded hammer and inclined brass pan with the frizzen tip bent forward. Has button-head ramrod.

The musket is in good condition. It has been cleaned over the years. The stock is in good condition with scratches, nicks and dings. The metal parts have pitting that has been cleaned over, giving the barrel, barrel bands, lockplate and buttplate an even feel. The markings are sharp and crisp. The bore has pitting. Overall condition is fair to good.
