.69 caliber, 42.25" rifled round barrel proof marked at the breech with long range rear sight. Tang dated and marked 1857 and with C/B/98 bayonet mating mark Lock has complete and fully functioning Maynard tape primer mechanism, plate marked "REMINGTON'S / ILION N.Y. / 1857 / U.S." Three band walnut stock with iron furniture and two cartouches on the side flat. Very good with a smooth even plum brown patina over most of the metal surfaces with clear markings. Good bore with strong rifling. Stock is crisp with usual minor bumps and dings. A particularly pleasing example of one of the 20,000 muskets so altered at the Frankford Arsenal.
