Pennsylvania Blanket Chest in Original Paint
American (Pennsylvania), 19th century. A six-board blanket chest in poplar, of dovetailed construction, having a molded lid and base, the interior with a covered till in walnut, all rising on turned feet, the polychromed exterior having orange, sponge-decorated trees on the lid and front panel with orange accents on the sides, on the molding and feet, all against a mustard ground, the interior corner of the lid inscribed in pencil aug 21-48 / 27XX; ht. 25.75, wd. 42, dp. 20.75 in.
Some minor surface wear as would be expected with age and use. Some age splits. Escutcheon later. Retains key to working lock mechanism.
