Printed broadside, approx.5.5 x 11.25 in., "Mr. Chadbourn, The New England Writing Master" offers his services to the people of Wolfborough and Tuftonborough, New Hampshire. Ca September 1857.
In an effort to draw attention to his notice, Mr. Chabourn utilizes several attention-grabbing headlines unrelated to his services but of great interest to the public at that time: "Shall Kansas be a Free State?", "Grand Rush for the Seat of War! War!! War!!!", and "Famine in Europe!" followed by "Indifferent Writers Take Courage!"
Advertisement then heralds the services of a Mr. Chadbourn who "Inspired with the confidence of more than five years experience as a Teacher of Writing, now offers to the Ladies and Gentlemen of Wolfborough his universally admired system of Penmanship, which for beauty of style, ease of acquisition, rapidity of execution, and ready adaptation, to the wants of business and private correspondence, stands unrivalled by any system extant." The broadside goes on to indicate that Mr. Chadbourn will open his academy on Tuesday evening, September 15, 1857, and includes the terms and costs of enrollment.
A clever period advertisement for a seemingly very proper Mr. Chadbourn.
Dampstain in center of top edge line. Top right corner appears to have been cut. Minor creasing and small tears along edge lines.
