- Lot Description
Oval salt print, 5.25 x 7.25 in., of famed abolitionist John Brown (1800-1859), on 5.25 x 8.25 in. mount (sight) with facsimile signature affixed at bottom, which reads, "Your Friend / John Brown." No studio mark. After a daguerreotype attributed to Martin Lawrence, New York, ca 1859. Framed, 10 x 13 in.
An iconic portrait of John Brown, taken during the final year of his life, just months before his failed October 1859 raid on the federal arsenal at Harpers Ferry.
Condition
Toning to print and facsimile signature. Image has lightened. Not examined outside of frame.
Item is in good condition. No porcelain bowl present.
