J. Fish (American, Charleston, South Carolina, active mid-19th century). Oil on canvas, housed in a gilt frame. A folk art portrait of two children standing in an exterior setting, with an artesian well, a cottage, hills and an urn with flowers in the background, signed J. Fish, dated 1854, and inscribed Father's & Mother's Favorites l.l. A fine southern folk art portrait, possibly identifiable by the artesian well; 41.25 x 35.5 in. (sight), 46.5 x 40.75 in. (frame).
Relined, with paint losses in black reserves, which were probably covered by an original frame. Some in-painting visible under UV light.
