Mid 19th Century - A one piece carved wooden cane by Thomas Jefferson Craddock, a commemorative walking cane with Masonic symbol on one side of handle and a horseshoe carved on the opposing side, carved collar, fully carved shaft with patriotic verse "Thos. Jefferson of VA. Born Apr. 13, 1743 was president USA. 1801 to 1809 wrote Declaration of Independence Founder of University VA 1819, died July 4, 1826, this cane was cut near Jefferson's tomb", "Jefferson dying words I resign my spirit to god my daughter and my country", with cross-hatching background and birds, fish, leaves, lizards, and fish, a high quality example of an American patriot folk cane from a master carver, with a brass ferrule.
