French Louis Philippe Carved Walnut Marble Top Commode, 19th c., the rectangular rounded corner figured black marble over a cavetto carved frieze drawer above three drawers joined by a lower "secret" drawer, on ball feet, H.- 38 in., W.- 51 in., D.- 22 1/2 in.
Condition consistent with age and use. The marble top has a dulled polish, notably worn areas, scratches and typical wear, and areas with white heat rings. The frieze drawer does not close flush with the stiles. Some veneer chips and cracks are observed with some consistency throughout; some with apparent repairs and others with mild losses. The base has a loss at the lower left corner and at the back left corner. The “secret” drawer does not close flush with the base. An attractive example.
