Pair of Black Marble and Patinated Spelter Garnitures, c. 1880, of temple form, each containing a classical figure beneath an inset classical frieze, on a stepped base with gilt incised decoration, H.- 14 5/8 in., W.- 5 1/2 in., D.- 4 1/4 in.
Condition consistent with age and use. An approximate 1 ½ inch triangular piece is lacking from the bottom left of the back. Heavy wear is noted around the handle of the back. An approximate ½ inch piece of veneer is lacking from the bottom right side. An approximate ¾ by 1/8 inch vertical gap is noted below the face, which has moderate wear throughout. Minute specks of white residue are observed throughout the landscape on the front. A ½ inch crack is noted in the top of the trim on the front. Scattered light wear is observed throughout the gilt decoration, especially several of the flowers. A slightly raised texture is also noted intermittently throughout. A fascinating piece.
