Information provided by the Artist: Based in West Sacramento, Manuel Fernando Rios is an accomplished painter and educator whose work explores the complexities of identity, ethnicity, and subcultures. Utilizing a mix of painting, collage, and screen-printing, Rios juxtaposes figurative subjects with dynamic geometric shapes to create a deliberate sense of "discombobulation." Rios holds an MFA from UC Davis and currently serves as a Professor of Fine Art at Woodland Community College and a board member for Yolo Arts. A Headlands Center for the Arts fellow, his work has been featured in prestigious collections and venues such as the Museum of the African Diaspora and the Museum of Culture and the Environment. His recent professional milestones include curating the exhibition "R.C.A.F. in Mid-Flight" at the Verge Center for the Arts and presenting his solo exhibition, "When They Reminisce Over You", at the Pence Gallery.
