• Lot Description
  A substantial and diverse collection of Japanese art, printed design papers, and hand-colored works, spanning traditional woodblock-style prints, mid-century textile designs, and modern reproductions in the classical nihonga manner. The lot includes numerous 17 sheets (various sizes) of katazome-style and stencil-printed decorative papers, many featuring repeating traditional motifs, calligraphic designs, and mid-century commercial patterns, including examples marked Shiseido and Matsuzakaya. These appear to be authentic Japanese design or wrapping papers, likely dating mid-20th century. Also included are several vintage woodblock-style prints depicting children in festival scenes, winter parades, stilt games, and other lively activities, each with excellent detail and artist seals. Additional process prints include two beautifully colored scenes showing traditional textile production and dyeing, rendered in a classical manner with calligraphy and seals. The group contains multiple mounted botanical bird-and-flower paintings, finely detailed and hand-colored in the traditional nihonga style, each bordered with patterned silk-style paper. These depict camellias, morning glories, hibiscus, and other blossoms accompanied by bees or small birds. Further pieces include a delicate outline drawing on thin rice paper, likely an artist’s preparatory sketch, as well as a small, highly textured lacquer-like print mounted inside a 1936 holiday card from Marcel Liberty Designs, Paris. Also present is a 19th-century chromolithograph of Japanese women with parasols, printed by Firmin-Didot & Cie, Paris, retaining vivid hand-finished details. A richly varied group ideal for collectors of Japanese art, textile design, woodblock prints, collage materials, or decorative ephemera. Many pieces are suitable for framing or creative use.
