Liege: 1661. Manuscript on paper, written in a neat and legible secretary hand by the author in black and red inks, with a folding table and diagrams illustrating the text. Period marbled calf. 7 x 4 1/2 inches (18 x 11.5 cm); folding table, [2], 125, [126-134] pp. blank, 21 ff. of diagrams (both recto and verso), approximately 71 in all, including three functioning volvelles. Binding worn, foot of spine chipped away, internally minor finger-soil but generally clean.
Written primarily in French, this detailed manuscript on astronomical calculation was exactingly and lovingly produced with considerable flair, perhaps with an eye to publication. It contains a suite of diagrams that incorporates several volvelles, and these have survived intact. Pages 105-118 consist of a table of latitude and longitude for a wide range of locations, including the Americas.
