Two volumes, three-quarters period green morocco over marbled boards, gilt contents labels within decorative gilt borders mounted to front covers. 12 x 9 inches (31 x 23 cm); 120 numbered engravings in all. Wear to spine and joints, boards and edges rubbed, generally a sound copy. Bookplates in Russian of the Library of George Georgievich, Duke of Mecklenburg.
A series of compositions and studies, largely with a military theme, engraved by Swebach-Desfontaine. According to the engraved title of Cahier I, 180 plates were to be issued in this series, but any portion of the work appears to rare in commerce. This copy has the bookplate with shelf-marks of Duke Georgy Georgievich (Georg-Alexander-Michael-Friedrich-Wilhelm-Franz-Karl) of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, of the Russian branch of the House of Mecklenburg.
