[ARTIST DRAWINGS]
Eighteen drawings of hands by an array of major 20th-century artists. These were prepared as a birthday gift to Martin Bonet. Rectos only of seventeen sheets of paper, each sheet approximately 8 1//2 x 11 inches (the eighteenth piece in the collection is a cutout by Wesselman). The designs (largely tracings) include the following. Robert Indiana: Sketch or tracing of his right hand on yellow paper, one finger adorned with an Indiana "Love" sticker, inscribed "for Martin" at head, signed 20.x, 78 and signed at foot; Tom Wesselmann: cutout of his right hand outlined in pencil and with a flesh-toned wash, signed in pencil at the wrist "Wesselman 78"; Richard Diebenkorn: bold drawing of a right hand in black ink (felt tip), signed and dated 1978; Romare Bearden drawing or tracing of a left hand, inscribed "I hat [sic] to trace," signed; Leroy Neiman: tracing of a left hand in multi-colored felt tips, signed in pencil and dated '78; Christo: outline of a right hand drawn and signed in pencil; Andy Warhol: crude drawing of his right hand, signed "Andy Warhol"; Oskar Kokoschka: tracing of his right hand, signed "OK" and dated 23.x.78, with an accompanying letter to Mrs. Bonet from Olda Kokoschka; Aaron Borod: detailed pen drawing addressed to Martin Bonet, notated "the short, inartistic, bandaged (occupational) fingers of Aaron Bohrod"; Marisol [Escobar]: drawing of both hands, "for Martin, (I used both hands), Marisol, 1978"; Jack Levine: drawing or tracing of a right hand in charcoal, inscribed "I'm left-handed. J. Levine, Oct 22 '78"; Anthony Caro: drawing of a left hand in ink, signed "A. Caro"; José de Rivera: tracing of a right hand in ink, labeled "right hand" and signed by the artist; Ben-Zion: pencil drawing or tracing of a left hand, signed; Peter Blume: drawing or tracing (with three fingers), signed; Peter Hurd: tracing of his hand, signed and notated "his hand" in black ink; Savo Radulovic: hand-printed in blue gouache of his left hand, inscribed at head for Martin Bonet; and two others, at present unidentified.
