Colonial Period Hand-Crank Wood and Iron Coffee Grinder
c. 1760, Colonial Period Hand-crank Wood and Iron Coffee Grinder, Very Fine.
This authentic original early American Coffee Grinder is made of Pennsylvania Walnut and measures about 6.75" wide x 6.5" deep x 7.5" high (from base to the top of the metal handle). Undoubtedly handmade and nicely crafted, with the sides joined together with dovetailing and small brads. The Iron bowl at top measures about 5" across and the Grinder appears to be fully operational. The handle measures about 6-3/8" but lacks the original wooden knob. A small pullout drawer would have caught the coffee grinds. A simple design, the wood has a nice patina, the iron and bowl shows some age heavy patina, and there are some trivial white specks. A fascinating display piece that is sure to be a conversation starter over a good cup of coffee.
