Description:
Chinese Silk Kesi Court Robe, 19th century , decorated with gold dragons, clouds, and waves.
Provenance: Purchased by Miss Anna Mae Stoever, circa 1924. Miss Anna Mae Stoever, born 1874, was the daughter of wealthy entrepreneur Charles M. Stoever of Philadelphia, the largest manufacturer and dealer on the East Coast of paper for books, newspapers, writing, manilla writing envelopes, and wrapping papers. At 34, she made her first trip around the world where she met Mr. Henry Frederick Wichman in Honolulu, HI, whom she later married in September of 1910 in Brooklyn, NY. After the passing of her husband in 1921, Mrs. Stoever-Wichman began a second world cruise aboard the RMS Mauretania in 1924. It was on this second cruise, where she visited China and Japan, that she acquired this item.

Condition:
Overall good condition, multiple repairs, some losses below central dragon on front in white circle below dragon's mouth also appearing in other white circles, patch and some holes to striped area on lower right front panel, some stitched old repairs and some separating, some losses and stains, some losses under arm on edge of back, and loss to fish on rear base above slit.
