Half length studio portrait of an elegant Black nanny and a white child. Quarter plate hand-gilt tintype. Full thermoplastic case with foliate motif.
An exquisite and tender portrait of a Black nanny with her young white charge. The young woman wears a patterned dress with a delicate lace collar. Notably, she wears earrings, a necklace, and a ring, each delicately gilt by an expert hand emphasizing the refined quality of the portrait.
The young child wears a white dress tied at the shoulders with ribbons, tinted pink by an equally deft hand.
An exceptional example.
