- Lot Description
Iron double-edged spearpoint blade with median ridge, iron ferrule, riveted wooden shaft. Blade 11 1/4 in. blade, overall 96 1/4 in.
Cheap and quick to produce, pikes were produced across the South as a way to crudely arm recruits when firearms were in short supply. Pikes and lances were rarely used among Federal regiments as they were only effective in a charge and generally cumbersome in rough and forested terrain.
