The Assassination of President Lincoln at Ford's Theater Washington, D.C. April 14th 1865. New York: Currier & Ives, 1865. Image 12 5/16 x 8 in., sheet 14 x 9 15/16 in.
An early artistic interpretation of the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. Booth, labeled here only as "assassin" though certainly bearing his likeness, emerges from an American flag to shoot the President from behind. Major Henry Rathbone attempts to intervene, his fiancée Clara Harris gasps in realization, while Mary Todd Lincoln has not yet seen the tragedy unfolding.
