This is a composite US Model 1884 or 1888 Trapdoor Rifle that has had the stock shortened. All models from 1873 through the introduction of the M1884 had 1873 model marked breech blocks, with the 1884 and 1888 models having 1884 marked blocks. By serial number the gun was made in 1890. Breech block and buttplate have been replaced. The rear sight is an M1879 pattern sight.
Likely a Bannerman composite gun that later had the stock shortened. Barrel is 32 1/2 in. long. Overall length is 51 1/2 in.
The metal's patina and wood are both extremely dark. There is also a cord wrapped around the rifle immediately behind the trigger, colored darker to match the rest of the aesthetic. On top of the barrel near the rear sight are the letters "V," "P," "F," and "A," along with a small eagle's head. Then, on the top of the butt plate, "28 B" is stamped. There are some small markings around the rifle near the trigger, along with a hole that looks to be filled. There are a few small cracks in the wood, but it is otherwise in good condition.
