Elegant study depicting a young ballet dancer standing en pointe with her arms raised overhead. Executed with expressive pastel highlights and delicate charcoal linework on toned paper, the composition captures the grace, movement, and fleeting spontaneity that made Degas' dancer studies among the most celebrated images of nineteenth-century art. Signed lower right.
Edgar Degas was one of the leading figures of the Impressionist movement and is internationally renowned for his depictions of dancers, performers, and scenes of modern Parisian life.
