L'Istoria Spagnola Overo Il Celimauro' is a romantic novel following a Spanish couple in their efforts to be together, despite many obstacles and adventures, from swashbuckling fights to harrowing travels through the wilderness.
The author, Anton Giulio Brignole-Sale (1605-1665), son of the 102nd Doge of Genoa, was a Genoese senator himself and the Marquess of Groppoli in Tuscany. In 1643 he was made ambassador to Philip IV of Spain, where he served with great success for many years. His time in Spain resulted in a deep interest in Spanish history and culture, and therefore the creation of this book, one of his many and varied writings.
This 1666 edition was published in the city of Venice for one Tomasini.
The binding of this book is of fine vellum, with beautiful gothic lettering to the spine. The front pastedown is affixed with a 1911 bookplate of G. Salomone of Nicosia.
