A 1692 first edition of 'Reflexions sur Les Defauts Ordinaires Des Hommes et sur Leurs Bonnes Qualitez', written in English as 'Reflections on the Ordinary Defects of Men and on Their Good Qualities' by the Abbot Jacques Goussault. This work is a satirical and philosophical review of the way French people behaved in the 17th century, discussing all the positive and negative qualities of their behavior and being littered with many interesting anecdotes. This leatherbound and brightly gilt 1682 first edition was published by la veuve M. Guerout in Paris. The front endpaper retains the Ex Libris signature of one 'Mademoiselle Designe'. [12], 345, [3] pp.6 1/2 x 3 3/4 in., (16.5 x 9.5 cm.)Very good with expected signs of age. Binding tight and secure.
