- Lot Description
A 17th-century Antwerp manufacture, a Flemish embossed leather and wood coin chest. Small gilt leather casket with a hidden compartment. This piece has a very specific and narrow area of origin in today's Belgium. The overall design and style blend a late Nordic Renaissance structure with a more Spanish-influenced leather covering. The decorative pattern gilt pressed on the leather follows simple geometrical arrangements of concentric rhombus and rectangle, all around filled with oversimplified acanthus floral details. The hardware, as well as the inner-lined red leather, is are late 19th-century replacement. However, the structure as well as the exterior leather layers are the original construction. One of the side panels slips out, allowing access to the lower hidden drawer.

Condition
Good. General and expected surface wear and age, especially at edges and corners. The lock is functional. Small area with leather unglued and peeling off the wooden structure.
