Of circular form, the body is made of polished onyx, with a finely cast and patinated silver border in the Russian Revival style, decorated with scrolling foliate ornament. A small glass dome encloses what appears to be a mineral or botanical specimen. Mounted with a silver plaque inscribed in Russian cursive: "Отъ иÑкренно признательной и раÑположенной" (Sincerely grateful and devoted…). Signed: Veselitskaya (ВеÑелицкаÑ)
Housed in its original silk and velvet-lined wooden case, the lid stamped in black with the Imperial Warrant and name of the court jeweler: Ð’.Ð. Болинъ / МоÑква (V.A. Bolin, Moscow)
Hallmarks: Moscow assay mark with the kokoshnik head (post-1908 style, facing right), silver standard mark "84" (zolotniks), Maker’s mark (appears to be "BA" in Cyrillic for Ð’.Ð. Болинъ).D: 4 3/4 in., (12.2 cm.)
Condition
Excellent overall condition. Light surface wear to the case and minor tarnish to silver consistent with age. The presentation and engraving are crisp and clear.
