- Lot Description
Striking French mantel clock featuring a finely cast bust of Ariadne atop a sculptural case by renowned bronzier Ferdinand Barbedienne. The design features a combination of gilded bronze, deep black slate, and richly veined Rouge Griotte marble. The round dial displays classic Roman numerals in bronze, framed in a gilt surround. This timepiece is fitted with a high-quality movement stamped Tiffany & Co., New-York and numbered 5554, reflecting a rare and prestigious collaboration between the famed Parisian maker and the American luxury house. The case stands firmly on four detailed cast bronze paw feet, adding a bold and elegant finish. Complete with original winding key and pendulum.H: 15 1/2 in. (39.4 cm.), dial diameter: 3 1/4 in. (8.3 cm.)The marble shows some wear and scratches, which is common for its age. The gilt areas are lightly rubbed. The mechanism looks intact, but it has not been tested.
