A straight-bladed European officer’s saber of early 19th century form, the slender steel blade of rectangular section tapering to a sharp point and bearing an engraved arsenal or inspector’s mark to the forte incorporating the date "1819". The hilt is of gilt brass, composed of a plain clamshell guard with downturned quillon, a single knuckle bow, and a finely molded pommel with classical foliate ornament. The grip is wrapped in twisted wire over a ribbed core, fitted with a small applied brass cartouche engraved "1819".
L: 35 1/4 in., (89.5 cm.)
The blade shows oxidation, scattered pitting, and surface staining, with some loss to edge sharpness. The brass hilt exhibits wear, nicks, and patina. The wire grip wrap is intact with even wear.
