- Lot Description
Two shortswords of similar style, one marked 'Toledo Spain', the other with no mark but in the correct style, probably making it an earlier piece.
The Toledo marked sword is composed of a black bakelite grip wrapped with spiraling gold colored string, with gilt metal guard and pommel decorated with foliate patterning, and a long, slender blade, reminiscent of a court sword. The piece is kept in a black leather scabbard mounted with gilt fixtures.
The unmarked blade is composed of a cast metal hilt, possibly bronze, which has been molded with eagles surrounded by foliate patterning and an acorn finial on the pommel, two acanthus leaf shaped quillons, and a long slender blade like that of the first sword. The scabbard is of dark brown leather with copper-toned brass mounts.

Condition
Gilt sword with chips to hilt and loss to hilt's finish. Parts are tight. Blade with only minimal signs of wear, mostly clean. Scabbard limp in a few spots. Cast metal hilted sword with its hilt in good condition, with some possible loss to finish which may be intentional antiquing. Blade is mostly clean with only minimal signs of age. Scabbard leather with some surface wear and cracking due to drying out and age, still sturdy. Scabbard fixtures with some loss to finish.
