Cast bronze bust depicting the head and upper neck of a woman, modeled with a deliberately expressive and textured surface. The sitter is shown with softly closed or downcast eyes, a calm, introspective expression, and subtly asymmetrical facial features. The hair is loosely arranged and pulled back, rendered with vigorous, gestural modeling that emphasizes movement and psychological depth rather than academic precision.
The sculptural treatment favors surface modulation and emotional presence over idealization, placing the work stylistically within the broader current of 20th-century European modernism, with affinities to the Rodin school, early Expressionism, and Central or Eastern European sculptural traditions of the interwar and postwar periods.
The bronze is finished with a rich, dark brown patina, showing nuanced tonal variation across the high points and recesses of the surface. The bust is mounted on a square stone base, secured with a central bolt visible from the underside, consistent with period construction and studio practice.
H: 14 1/2 in., (36.8 cm.) including a base, W: 9 1/4 in., (23.5 cm.)
Very good overall condition with light rubbing to the patina on raised areas and minor abrasions to the base. No visible structural issues. The casting is crisp and the surface texture remains well defined.
