François-Théodore Devaulx (French, 1802-1870), Oriental sculpture depicting an Indian dancer. Cast bronze, covered with a nice dark brown patina and accented with gilding. Raised on a high plinth with four gilt bronze legs. High casting quality and beautiful details.
Note: François Théodore Devaulx was a French sculptor. In 1823, Devaulx was a student of Jules Ramey (1796 - 1852) at the École des beaux-arts de Paris. He received a second prize at the Prix de Rome in 1833. He participated in the Salon des artistes français, of which he was a member, from 1845 to 1870. He received a third-class medal at the Paris Salon in 1849.
H: 16 1/2 in., (42 cm.)
Very good overall, the original gilding is almost entirely preserved.
