- Lot Description
A very finely decorated flintlock pistol, with its wooden stock inlaid with extremely intricate silver scrollwork and silver appliques showing militaristic motifs. The barrel shows its twisted steel pattern amongst chased foliate motifs and 11 gilt stars to the breech, and a small gilt band by the muzzle. On one side of the stock, just under the muzzle, is a small section of Arabic script. The flintlock mechanism and lockplate are engraved with foliate scrollwork.
Possibly Ottoman or Eastern European, early 19th century.
L: 16 in., (40.8 cm.)
Condition
Excellent, with only tiny spots of loss to silver and gilding. Minor staining to barrel as expected for age. Silver still bright. Mechanism functions well.
