- Lot Description
A very finely decorated flintlock pistol, with its wooden stock inlaid with extremely intricate foliate scrollwork in bright silver. The pommel, trigger guard, and backstrap, and left-hand lockplate are all chased with military motifs. The lockplate is engraved with the maker's mark 'Hadfield', the breech tang engraved 'London', though interestingly, the barrel is stamped with marks which appear to be Russian, including a Cyrillic 'Fe' mark, a crowned 'V', an illegible stamp, and two crossed swords with a star. The first half of the barrel is octagonal, the second have cylindrical, the two sections being divided by lathe-turned bands.
English and/or Russian, early 19th century.

Condition
Excellent. Silver still bright with only a couple tiny spots of loss. Light pitting to barrel. Mechanism functions well.
