A very rare cutlass pistol produced by the firm of Henry Morrill, Silas Mosman and Charles Blair of Amherst, Massachusetts around the year 1837, using a boxlock percussion mechanism. The blade is similar in design to that of a bowie knife and is attributed to the famous cutler N.P. Ames, also of Massachusetts. The barrel is straight rifled, as opposed to spiral, being more accurate than a smoothbore while still allowing the use of shot. The only marking on the gun is the serial number '16' found just under the receiver. The whole gun is kept in a sheath of black leather mounted with german silver fixtures.
Bore: .36 Caliber.
Massachusetts, United States of America, 19th century.
L: 14 in., (35.6 cm.)
Good for its age, with expected pitting to surface, minor scratches. Minor chips to metal and wood. Mechanism appears functional. Scabbard leather very good for its age with light cracking.
