- Lot Description
A Middle Eastern saif, ca. 19th century. Origin: Najd or Hejaz region, Arabian Peninsula. Curved, single-edged steel blade made of fine wootz. Characteristic L-shaped grip made of chased silver-mounted wood or horn. Crossguard with bulbous quillons, a common form in Arabian hilts. The pommel is connected to the crossguard with a silver chain. The scabbard is constructed of two wooden scales, covered in black shagreen, stitched leather, and mounted in chased fittings. Complete with original red-and-gold sword knot tassels.
L: 39 in., (99 cm.)
Condition
Very good overall with all parts intact and original.
