- Lot Description
A highly ornate Napoleon III-era French jewelry casket, combining gilt bronze mounts with elaborately carved dark-stained wood panels, most likely walnut or oak. The box rests on four scroll-footed ormolu legs, and its shaped, bombé form is embellished with finely cast appliqués in the Louis XV/Rococo Revival style, including foliate scrolls, garlands, and central cartouches. Circa: 1860–1880.7 x 5 x 4 1/4 in., (18 x 13 x 11 cm.)Fair to good condition. Surface wear and oxidation to the mounts. Minor loss to detailing and gilt elements. Lid no longer closes flush, possibly due to warping or hinge misalignment.
