- Lot Description
A lidded snuff box comprised of carved coquilla nut with a brass hinged connecting the box and lid. The lid carved with detailed militaristic naval motifs, including boarding axes, banners, an anchor, a cannon, and a ram for a ship's prow, among other items. The rim of the box is decorated with intricate floral patterning, with the bottom having a single large flower surrounded by many petals. Italy, early 19th century.L: 3 1/2 in. (9 cm)Good, with only miniscule cracks in some places. Lid and box slightly misaligned but still closes. Hinge functions well.
