A German hunting dagger of classical 19th-century form, featuring a straight, double-edged steel blade of narrow proportions, the blade finely etched with stylized foliate scrollwork and central ornamental reserves extending along the fuller, now softly worn and muted through age and use. The hilt is fitted with a carved stag-horn grip, set against a darkened steel crossguard featuring a symmetrical, lobed quillon form. The blade seats into a stitched leather scabbard of tapering outline, fitted with a shaped throat and chape, the surface showing an even, undisturbed patina consistent with period manufacture. Overall, the dagger represents a traditional German Jäger or hunting sidearm, intended for both practical use in the field and as a display of craftsmanship, typical of Central European sporting weapons of the 19th century.
L: 27 1/2 in., (70 cm.)
Metal fixtures with pitting throughout. All parts tight. Handle in near perfect condition. Scabbard leather in very good condition with only minor wear.
