Polychrome-glazed porcelain modeled as a slender theatrical figure posed in animated dance with one leg raised and one arm extended in a gesture of performance. The costume is richly painted in saturated red, blue, yellow and green tones with applied gilding and stylized floral ornament, reflecting Wiinblad’s distinctive graphic and decorative idiom inspired by theater, ballet and commedia dell’arte traditions. The expressive white mask-like face with elongated features and the highly stylized costume emphasize movement, fantasy and elegance rather than naturalism. The figure stands on an oval white base with gilt banding and a gilded rocaille support element at the rear, enhancing the sense of motion and theatrical staging.
The verso bears the green mark Rosenthal Selb-Bavaria with the artist’s facsimile signature, together with the model name inscription and factory annotations, confirming manufacture by Rosenthal in collaboration with Björn Wiinblad, who produced a celebrated series of imaginative figures for Rosenthal from the 1950s onward, now regarded as icons of postwar European decorative design.
