Modeled as a standing gentleman hunter resting against a tree stump and a female companion holding a long gun, both dressed in colorful late 18th-century court and rural attire with rococo influence. The figures are finely modeled with expressive faces and animated stances, the male wearing a tricorn hat, floral waistcoat and yellow coat, the female in a pale yellow dress with floral apron and fitted bodice, the costumes richly hand-painted in enamels with pastel grounds and floral detailing. Each figure is raised on an integrated molded base and executed in glazed porcelain with careful attention to textile patterning, shoe decoration and facial expression. The underside of each base bears the impressed mark of the Schwarzburger Werk Volkstedt Thuringia Porzellanfabrik together with impressed model numbers 1145 and 1142 and firing holes, confirming manufacture in Thuringia during the early 20th century in a late historicist revival manner inspired by 18th-century German and French porcelain traditions.
H: 10 3/8 in., (26.4 cm.)
Good overall with the tip of the rifle broken off.
