- Lot Description
A winged putto (cherub) in gilt bronze (ormolu) kneels on an ornate Rococo-style base, holding a finely detailed porcelain egg-shaped urn with a floral finial. The putto and base are ormolu bronze gilded metal, with typical Rococo scrollwork. The egg-shaped urn is a hand-painted porcelain with gold and blue enamel decoration in a pattern reminiscent of Sèvres or Napoleon III-era ormolu-mounted porcelain. The final is floral, heavily encrusted with gilded vines or flowers, completing the Neoclassical influence. The base is open and cast of solid bronze, typical of decorative 19th-century work. French, c. 1870–1890, aligning with Napoleon III / Second Empire / Belle Époque styles. Probably made for decorative use in a parlor, mantelpiece, or lady’s dressing table.H: 7 in., (18 cm.)Minor gilt loss, especially on high points (wings, knees, arms), exposing underlying metal, is typical and expected from age. Some oxidation or dark spots noted on the torso and wing edges; possible signs of handling or mild corrosion. No visible cracks or breaks. The base appears stable and intact.
