- Lot Description
A large Caucasian kindjal dagger of characteristic form, with its blade decorated to one side with brilliant gold damascene in traditional Islamic style. The hilt is comprised of two horn grip scales set around a tang with foliate gold damascene. The blade is kept within a black leather scabbard set with a gilt mount and retaining its original belt.
Washers under the rivets are made of Persian coins.
Southern Caucasus, 19th century.
L: 26 3/8 in., (67 cm.)
Condition
Blade is pitted. Gold inlay at the forte with some minor loss along the mid-rib. Scabbard missing its tip. Carved horn hilt is in fine condition.
