White glazed porcelain lidded cosmetic or powder jar of tapering cylindrical form with a domed cover surmounted by a stylized female bust finial executed in the mature sculptural language of Paul Scheurich during his late Meissen period. The finial is characterized by an elongated neck, softly abstracted facial planes, half-closed eyes, and waved coiffure, reflecting the restrained modern classicism developed by Scheurich in the late 1930s and early 1940s. The bust is delicately hand-painted with subtle enamel accents to the lips, cheeks, and hair, with additional polychrome detailing at the base suggesting stylized floral elements integrated into the sculptural composition. The body and cover are further enriched by a thin orange enamel band encircling the lid seam and foot rim, providing linear contrast against the white ground in keeping with late interwar Meissen decorative practice. The underside bears the underglaze blue crossed swords factory mark.
H: 7 1/4 in., (18.4 cm.)
