Kabylia region, northern Algeria. Each of cylindrical hinged cuff form, constructed of hand-worked silver sheet and richly decorated throughout with polychrome cloisonné-style enamel in deep cobalt blue, emerald green, and amber-orange tones, interspersed with raised Mediterranean coral cabochons in teardrop and circular settings. The bracelets are further embellished with twisted wire borders, domed bosses, rosette motifs, and applied granulation-style accents. Fitted with hinged side openings and original chain safety retainers.
The decorative vocabulary, repeating geometric and floral motifs, triangular and lozenge forms, and vibrant enamel palette is characteristic of traditional Kabyle silversmithing. The combination of thick, glassy enamel and coral settings reflects both the technical sophistication and symbolic language of Amazigh jewelry, in which coral was valued for its protective and talismanic qualities. The bracelets retain strong ethnographic integrity and display the bold visual impact associated with Kabyle ceremonial adornment, traditionally worn as a matched pair.
Weight: 27.1 oz., (168 g.)H: 4 in., (10.2 cm.)
Overall good condition, consistent with age and traditional use. The silver surfaces show areas of oxidation and wear. The enamel is largely intact with scattered small losses and surface irregularities typical of hand-applied work. The coral cabochons are secure, with minor abrasions. Hinges and chains are functional. No evidence of modern restoration.
