A scarce 18th-century straight sword for a German Dragoon Officer, with a long, straight blade which has been engraved with scrollwork and military motifs along the first third of the blade. The guard of gilt brass molded to appear as a clamshell with scrollwork borders, a large beastman's face to the center. The reverse of the guard having a rolled thumb ring. The grip of leather wrapped in twisted copper wire. Pommel in the shape of a lion's head. The blade is kept within a scabbard of black leather, affixed with brass mounts and two attachment rings.
